Additional information

Guernsey has no independent monetary authority in the conventional sense — it issues coins under Crown dependency status, with the UK Treasury's approval, through licensing arrangements that have made the island a prolific source of commemorative issues since the 1970s. This gold-plated 50 pence is one of dozens of collector pieces the Bailiwick has released under Elizabeth II's name, a program that accelerated sharply in her final decades as the commemorative coin market expanded. She died in September 2022, making late-dated issues from that year transitional curiosities in the series.
