The Silver Jubilee issues of 1977 were produced across dozens of British territories and dependencies simultaneously — a coordinated Commonwealth-wide commemorative program that generated enormous mintage numbers globally, though individual territory issues varied sharply. The Falkland Islands, still five years from the Argentine invasion that would thrust the colony into international headlines, issued this proof in silver alongside a cupro-nickel circulation version.
KM#10a distinguishes the silver proof from its base-metal counterpart. Mintages for Falklands silver proofs of this period were modest, supplied primarily to collectors through the Islands' own philatelic and numismatic bureau.
