Additional information

Gibraltar's commemorative output in the early 2000s was prolific to the point of market saturation, with the territory issuing dozens of themed silver proofs annually through the Pobjoy Mint. This piece marks the Royal Marines' service in WWI, though the corps' most celebrated actions of that conflict — Gallipoli, the Zeebrugge Raid of 1918 — were already heavily covered across British commemorative issues of the period.

The Zeebrugge Raid, if that is the intended focus, involved Marines storming a mole under direct fire to disable German U-boat access to the Belgian port — an action that earned eight Victoria Crosses in a single night.
