Reverse description A finely detailed effigy of the Saint Helena plover (Charadrius sanctaehelenae), also known as the wirebird or rainpiper, depicted standing in profile amid a naturalistic habitat scene featuring rocky outcroppings, water, marsh grasses, and a flowering plant with broad leaves in the upper left field. The denomination 50 PENCE appears in the upper right field, the date 1998 to the right, and the legend WWF CONSERVING NATURE arcs along the lower rim, referencing the World Wide Fund for Nature conservation series. The reverse was engraved by Willem Vis and exhibits finely modelled relief throughout.
