Additional information

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population that has rarely exceeded 300, issues collector coinage through arrangement with the British Royal Mint and associated producers. This 2001 piece commemorates the centenary of Queen Victoria's death in January 1901. Victoria had reigned for 63 years — longer than any British monarch before Elizabeth II — and her death prompted genuine public mourning across the empire, including in the most remote corners of it.

At 47.54g in 22-carat gold, this is a heavyweight issue clearly aimed at the collector market rather than anything approaching circulation.
