Additional information

Ascension Island, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a population drawn almost entirely from military and government personnel, issued this piece to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in March 2002 at age 101. The island has no indigenous population and its coinage exists purely as a commemorative and philatelic enterprise — virtually none of it enters meaningful circulation.
