| Reverse description | Central effigy of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip depicted facing one another in their wedding attire, based on a photographic image from their marriage on 20 November 1947; the bride wears a tiara and veil while the groom is in naval dress uniform. The denomination 50 appears in the lower central field. The surrounding legend PLATINUM WEDDING arcs across the upper field, with ELIZABETH AND PHILIP 20 NOVEMBER 1947-2017 arranged along the left and lower periphery of the coin. |

Issued to mark the 70th wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, this is one of the more unusual commemorative pairings in Isle of Man coinage — a 50 pence denomination struck in 22-carat gold, a metal entirely at odds with the face value but entirely consistent with Pobjoy Mint's approach to the Isle of Man's collector program. Pobjoy held the minting contract for the island for decades and routinely exploited the jurisdiction's permissive commemorative licensing to produce precious metal versions of circulating denominations.
Philip and Elizabeth married on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey, making 2017 their platinum anniversary.
