The Paddington Bear 50p series was issued to mark the fictional bear's 60th anniversary — Michael Bond published A Bear Called Paddington in 1958. The Royal Mint released four designs in 2018, each placing Paddington at a London landmark, with the gold proofs struck in strictly limited numbers for collector issue only. This "Palace" version never entered circulation in any form.
