| Additional information |
Guernsey was occupied by German forces from June 1940 until May 1945 — the only British Crown dependency to fall under Nazi administration during the war. The island's liberation came not by airborne assault but by German surrender following Hitler's death, yet the airborne theme is locally charged: Operation Overlord's paratroop drops into Normandy on 6 June 1944 were visible to islanders under occupation just miles across the water.
The gold-plated format with pad-printed color detail is a presentation-grade collector issue, not a circulation piece — Guernsey's 50p coinage has long served as a vehicle for commemorative programs marketed primarily to overseas collectors rather than domestic commerce.
