Additional information

Issued to mark the fortieth anniversary of Jersey's liberation from German occupation on May 9, 1945, this coin commemorates one of the longer occupations of British territory during the Second World War — Jersey remained under German control for the full five years from July 1940. The island's civilian population endured forced labor deportations, severe food shortages, and the construction of fortifications that consumed a significant portion of the Channel Islands' wartime landscape — notably the tunnel complexes at Noirmont and St. Peter's. Liberation Day remains a public holiday in Jersey to this day.
