Additional information

John Logie Baird demonstrated the first working television system to members of the Royal Institution in January 1926, using a contraption built from a hatbox, bicycle lamp lenses, and darning needles. The 2021 issue marks the centenary of his earliest experimental work on image transmission, which began in 1921 while he was recovering from illness in Hastings.

The 15.5g specification places this firmly in the half-sovereign weight class, a deliberate commercial choice by the Royal Mint for its 50p proof gold program.
