This piece is one of several Isle of Man issues commemorating Prince Philip, released in 2021 following his death in April of that year at age 99. The Isle of Man has a long history of issuing commemorative coinage through the Pobjoy Mint, producing licensed strikes well outside the constraints of Royal Mint output — a commercial freedom that has made the island's commemorative program among the most prolific of any British Crown dependency.
The "1960s" designation in the series title refers to the period of Philip's public life being commemorated, not the coin's date of issue.
