One of 29 sports depicted across the Royal Mint's London 2012 Olympic 50 pence series — the largest commemorative coin program in British history by piece count. The silver versions were struck alongside standard cupro-nickel circulation issues, the latter of which became aggressively hoarded by the public the moment collectors realized the full set was being released incrementally through ordinary change.
Gymnastics was among the earlier releases in the sequence, before the hoarding frenzy peaked.
