Jersey issued this piece to mark Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee — fifty years on the throne, celebrated in 2002 but commemorated in coinage that trickled out through 2003. As a Crown dependency, Jersey holds a particular constitutional relationship with the monarch distinct from Commonwealth realms: the Queen was Lord of Mann's equivalent here, Duke of Normandy by historic title, a feudal holdover the islanders have always taken seriously.
