Jersey issued this piece to mark Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, commemorating fifty years on the throne following her accession in February 1952. The island's status as a Crown Dependency — not part of the United Kingdom, but owing allegiance directly to the Crown — makes Jubilee coinage a matter of particular constitutional significance there, distinct from the parallel issues produced by the Royal Mint for domestic circulation.
Notably, the Royal Mint's own Golden Jubilee 50p was released in 2002; Jersey's appearance a year later reflects the island's independent minting schedule through the Royal Mint on contract.
