Reverse description Full-length depiction of Edward Trunk, the anthropomorphic elephant character from the Isle of Man children's stories, shown striding forward in a striped jersey, tartan trousers, boots, and a small hat. A detailed rural landscape with trees, hedgerows, and a farmhouse occupies the background field. The denomination FIFTY PENCE arcs along the upper portion of the field in a hand-lettered style, while the character's name EDWARD TRUNK is inscribed in bold capitals along the lower field.

Additional information

The Isle of Man has long used its fiscal autonomy to issue commemorative and themed coinage well outside the constraints of Royal Mint programming. This particular piece belongs to a run of wildlife-themed 50p issues from the island — a series that has accumulated a dedicated collector following largely because the Manx government imposes no obligation on the Royal Mint and contracts production through Pobjoy Mint, giving designers unusual creative latitude for a circulating denomination.
