Additional information

The 2009 issue marks the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings, a date significant partly because it was widely understood to be the last major anniversary at which substantial numbers of veterans could be expected to attend. French and British heads of state both participated in the commemorations at Arromanches that June, with Barack Obama making his first presidential visit to a D-Day ceremony.
