The 2002 Falkland Islands crown marks the Queen's Golden Jubilee, but the islands' decision to issue it carried unusual weight. Less than twenty years earlier, Argentine forces had occupied Port Stanley, and British sovereignty over the islands had been settled by force rather than diplomacy. A jubilee coin from a territory that nearly ceased to be British gives the commemorative impulse a harder edge than most.
