Additional information

Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation on 2 June 1953, this piece appeared the same year Guernsey also celebrated its own long association with the Crown — a relationship predating the English conquest of 1066, rooted in the island's status as a remnant of the Duchy of Normandy. Guernsey is not part of the United Kingdom and issues its own coinage under Crown dependency status, giving commemoratives like this a distinct jurisdictional character that purely British issues lack.
