Obverse description The fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Jody Clark, occupies the centre of the heptagonal field, depicting the crowned and draped bust of the Queen in right-facing profile. The Queen wears the George IV State Diadem and a drop earring, rendered with fine sculptural detail. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2022, separated by raised dots and following the curve of the equilateral heptagon. The engraver's initials J.C appear below the truncation of the bust. The mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted portrait relief.

Reverse description The reverse, designed by Natasha Preece, presents a stylised decorative composition evoking the iconography of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The upper portion of the field is filled with an overlapping circles pattern inspired by the Flower of Life motif, rendered in fine incuse lines against a polished ground. Below this geometric lattice, a bold row of abstracted zigzag forms — referencing the spires of Birmingham's Centenary Square and the dynamic energy of athletic competition — occupies the central zone, with textured surfaces contrasting against the mirror field. The legend BIRMINGHAM 2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES is inscribed in three lines across the lower field in bold sans-serif capitals. The engraver's initials N·P appear to the lower right of the central design.
