Reverse description The reverse presents Christopher Ironside's celebrated rendering of the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom, displayed as a quartered shield bearing the three golden lions passant guardant of England, the rampant lion of Scotland, and the harp of Ireland, surmounted by the Royal Crown. The shield is supported by a crowned lion guardant rampant to the left and a unicorn chained and passant to the right, both rendered with fine heraldic precision. Encircling the shield is the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, while below the supporters a scrolled ribbon bears the motto DIEU ET MON DROIT. The denomination legend FIFTY PENCE arcs along the upper field, and the numeral 50 appears prominently in the lower field, with the engraver's initials CI visible beneath the shield.
