Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. The portrait is consistent with the Ian Rank-Broadley style used on Gibraltar coinage of this period. The issuer name GIBRALTAR and the monarch's name ELIZABETH II flank the effigy, with the date 2000 completing the legend around the periphery.

Additional information

Gibraltar's annual Christmas 50 pence series, launched in 1988, was one of the earliest ongoing holiday-themed collector programs from a British Overseas Territory — predating similar issues from other jurisdictions by several years. The 2000 edition carries the added weight of marking the millennium year, which drove collector demand sharply upward across virtually all proof programs issued under the Crown that year.

KM#887a distinguishes the silver proof from the base-metal circulation strike, both sharing the same dies.
