| Additional information |
Gibraltar has issued annual Christmas 50 pence pieces since 1988, making it one of the longest-running themed coin programs from any British Overseas Territory. The series emerged partly as a revenue exercise for the Gibraltar government, which has leaned heavily on collector issues since the 1970s to supplement public finances — a common strategy among small jurisdictions with limited mint obligations but full currency-issuing rights under the Gibraltar pound.
The 2014 issue is one of dozens in the run, with no particular scarcity attached to this year over others.
