The Isle of Man Treasury has long operated outside the constraints of UK coinage policy, giving it latitude to issue collectible pieces that the Royal Mint would never sanction for circulation. This colourised Cheshire Cat release is one of several Lewis Carroll-themed coins the Treasury produced, trading on the fact that Carroll — born Charles Dodgson — had no direct connection to the island whatsoever. The licensing angle, not geography, drives the series.
