Additional information

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's *Through the Looking-Glass*, this coin is part of a broader Isle of Man commemorative program that has made the territory one of the more prolific issuers of licensed literary coinage in the British Isles. The Isle of Man Treasury operates outside Royal Mint jurisdiction, giving it unusual latitude to issue collector pieces in denominations that are technically legal tender but designed entirely for the secondary market.

Carroll published *Through the Looking-Glass* in December 1871, though Macmillan backdated copies to 1872.
