Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Imperial State Crown with drop earring and pearl necklace, after the portrait by Raphael Maklouf. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II arcs across the upper field, with ST. HELENA to the right, and the denomination 50 PENCE appears in the lower field. Small decorative bullet points punctuate the legend at intervals.

Reverse description At centre, the Imperial State Crown rests atop a tasselled cushion or pillow, all contained within a raised inner circle. Ornamental floral scrollwork flanks the central motif on either side. The legend GOD SAVE THE QUEEN arcs across the upper portion of the border, while the word ACCESSION appears below the inner circle, with the commemorative dates 1952-2002 inscribed beneath, marking the Golden Jubilee of the Queen's accession to the throne.
