Reverse description The reverse features an illustration adapted from Axel Scheffler's original artwork for Julia Donaldson's celebrated children's book 'The Gruffalo', first published in 1999. The central composition depicts the large, shaggy Gruffalo creature — shown with curved horns, prominent tusks, knobbly knees, and clawed feet — seated amid a woodland setting with fir trees flanking the scene on either side. A small mouse stands boldly in the lower left foreground, facing the towering beast, while a butterfly on a dotted flight path is visible in the upper left field. The stylised title legend THE GRUFFALO® arcs across the upper portion of the field in lettering that echoes the hand-drawn style of the original book illustrations.
