Reverse description The reverse, designed by David Knapton, honours the pioneering crystallographer Rosalind Franklin and commemorates her landmark X-ray diffraction image known as Photograph 51, which was instrumental in determining the double-helix structure of DNA. The left portion of the field features a stylised halftone representation of the famous X-ray diffraction pattern, rendered as concentric arrangements of dots of varying sizes evoking the distinctive cross-shaped diffraction image. To the right, the name ROSALIND FRANKLIN is inscribed vertically in bold modern sans-serif capitals arranged letter by letter downward, followed below by the abbreviation DNA. The inscription Photograph 51 appears horizontally along the right margin in a smaller italic font, and the designer's initials DK are placed near the lower rim.
