Reverse description A dramatic and densely composed scene commemorating the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944, designed by sculptor John Mills. The reverse field is filled with a sweeping panoramic depiction of the Allied amphibious assault, showing numerous landing craft cutting through the waves of the English Channel toward the Normandy coast, while above them the sky is crowded with aircraft — including transport planes and gliders — forming a vast airborne armada. The design conveys a powerful sense of scale, movement, and historical gravity through its richly detailed low-relief engraving. The denomination 50 PENCE appears at the lower portion of the design, accompanied by the engraver's initials JM.
