Obverse description The fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Jody Clark, occupies the centre of the obverse, depicting a right-facing crowned and draped bust of the Queen wearing a diamond drop earring and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The circumferential Latin legend reads 'ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·F·D·50 PENCE', interrupted at intervals by raised pellet stops, with the engraver's initials 'J.C' incused at the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field, characteristic of Royal Mint proof coinage.
