| Additional information |
Ascension Island, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a population historically composed almost entirely of military and communications personnel, has no indigenous civilian economy to speak of — its commemorative coinage program exists purely for the collector market, administered through agreements with the British Crown and contracted minting houses. The 50th anniversary of the Coronation in 2003 prompted a wave of identical commemoratives across multiple dependent territories, all struck to the same specification.
KM#16a is the silver variant; a cupro-nickel KM#16 was issued concurrently.
