Additional information

Part of the Royal Mint's ongoing Ancient Britain series, this issue commemorates Coelodonta antiquitatis, the woolly rhinoceros that roamed Britain during the Pleistocene before extinction roughly 14,000 years ago. The species is known from British fossil records including specimens recovered from the Thames riverbed and cave deposits in Wales and Yorkshire.

First year of the series to appear exclusively in silver proof, with no base-metal circulation equivalent struck.
