| Obverse description | Uncrowned, right-facing effigy of King Charles III, modelled by sculptor Martin Jennings, occupying the central field of the heptagonal flan. The portrait renders the King in a naturalistic, contemporary style without regalia, showing fine detail in the facial features and hair. The circumferential legend reads CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·50 PENCE·2023, separated by raised dots, running clockwise around the portrait. The engraver's initials MJ appear in small characters to the right of the King's truncation, below the portrait. The design follows the standard Royal Mint obverse format established for the reign of Charles III. |
