Additional information

The Royal Mint has issued Olympic-themed 50 pence pieces for Team GB since the 1988 Seoul Games, but the piedfort format — double the thickness of a standard coin struck from the same dies — has been a consistent fixture in the commemorative program only since the 1990s. Piedforts originated in medieval France as die trials and presentation pieces for assay purposes, not collector currency.

Team GB's Paris 2024 campaign ultimately yielded 65 medals, the nation's best performance at an overseas Games.
