| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by Thomas T. Docherty, presents a finely engraved composition of three Second World War-era British campaign medals suspended from their ribbons along the upper field. To the left hangs the 1939–1945 Star, its six-pointed star form bearing a central circular boss inscribed GRI VI and THE 1939–1945 STAR around the crowned royal cypher of George VI. At centre and right, two circular war medals display left-facing effigies of King George VI — one bareheaded with the legend GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP, and one crowned with the legend GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE IMP — both rendered in faithful numismatic detail. The engraver's initials TN appear in the lower right field. Across the lower portion of the field, the series inscription STORIES OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR is displayed in bold raised lettering against the mirror-polished exergue. |
