Reverse description A detailed frontal architectural elevation of Windsor Castle dominates the upper field, depicting the Henry VIII Gateway flanked by the crenellated towers and battlements of the Lower Ward, set against a stippled diaper background pattern. Below the castle, the inscription WINDSOR CASTLE appears in bold Roman lettering, flanked by fleurs-de-lis ornaments. The denomination 50p is centred at the base, likewise accompanied by flanking fleurs-de-lis, completing a design by Quentin Peacock that balances heraldic decoration with architectural precision.

Additional information

Jersey issues commemorative 50 pence pieces with some regularity, and this Royal Residences series entry follows the pattern established under Elizabeth II of using the seven-sided format for themed collector releases. Windsor Castle's association with the Crown of Jersey is indirect — the island is a Crown Dependency, meaning its allegiance runs to the monarch personally rather than to the British parliament or government, a constitutional distinction that dates to the Norman Conquest and has never been dissolved.
