Additional information

The Gold State Coach depicted here has carried every British monarch to their coronation since George IV in 1821, though it is notoriously uncomfortable — Queen Victoria reportedly despised riding in it. Built between 1760 and 1762 to a design by William Chambers, it weighs nearly four tonnes and requires eight horses to move at walking pace. The Royal Mews series from Guernsey has made a point of documenting the working infrastructure of the monarchy rather than its ceremonial faces, an editorial choice that distinguishes it from the crowded field of 2023–24 coronation issues.
