The Isle of Man has issued licensed commemorative 50p pieces in volume since the 1970s, and its arrangement with the Crown Dependency's treasury allows designs entirely outside the constraints that govern Royal Mint output. The Peter Pan connection is geographical rather than incidental: J.M. Barrie specified in his 1929 bequest that royalties from Peter Pan would go to Great Ormond Street Hospital in perpetuity, a provision that survived even the 1988 UK Copyright Act through a specific parliamentary amendment.
