Additional information

Liberation Day, observed on 9 May each year, marks the 1945 end of the German occupation of Guernsey — the longest occupation of British-controlled territory during the Second World War, lasting from June 1940 through the German surrender. The 50p denomination has been Guernsey's preferred vehicle for commemorative circulation issues since decimalization, and this piece continues that practice under the new reign following Elizabeth II's death in September 2022.
