The Gruffalo's Child, published by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler in 2004 as a sequel to their 1999 original, became the basis for this 2024 Royal Mint issue — part of a broader licensed character series that has grown considerably under Charles III. The Royal Mint has leaned heavily into children's literature partnerships since the 2019 Gruffalo 50p, which saw secondary market premiums well above face value driven almost entirely by collector demand from parents and children rather than traditional numismatists.
