Additional information

Jersey has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces regularly since decimalisation in 1971, but the D-Day series occupies a specific niche: the island was the only British territory occupied by German forces during the war, liberated on 9 May 1945 — a date still marked locally as Liberation Day. That history gives Jersey's D-Day commemoratives a geographic authenticity most issuers cannot claim. The gold plating here is nominal, a fraction below one part per thousand fine gold over a copper-nickel core.
