Issued to mark the coronation of Charles III on 6 May 2023, this piece is one of several Guernsey releases tied to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey — the first coronation in seventy years. Guernsey, as a Crown Dependency, holds a particular constitutional relationship with the Crown that sits outside the United Kingdom proper, giving these issues a degree of official weight beyond pure commemorative commerce.
The Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross has been used at every coronation since Charles II in 1661, and since 1910 has housed the Cullinan I diamond — the largest clear cut diamond in the world at 530.2 carats.
