| Reverse description | The reverse design, by engraver Ardo, commemorates Concorde's first commercial passenger service on 21 January 1976. A highly detailed side-profile rendering of Concorde in flight is depicted twice — once in the upper portion traversing a relief map of the world showing Europe and Africa, with route destination labels LONDON, PARIS, and BAHRAIN inscribed; and once in the lower portion over South America, with RIO DE JANEIRO labeled near the continent's outline. The bold legend CONCORDE is inscribed horizontally across the centre of the design in large block lettering, bisecting the composition, with the commemorative date 21 JANUARY 1976 prominently displayed along the lower exergue. The engraver's signature AR DO appears to the lower right of the central inscription. |
