Additional information

The Clangers debuted on BBC1 in November 1969, created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin through their small production company Smallfilms. The show was famously warned by a BBC executive that it could not include the word "bloody" — a concern prompted by a script where the Major Clanger's exclamation was deemed too close to the expletive, even filtered through the characters' signature swanee-whistle voices. Postgate revised the line. The series was revived in 2015 with a new cast but retained the original knitted aesthetic.
