Guernsey has operated as an independent issuing authority since decimalisation in 1971, and has long supplemented its circulating coinage with commemorative and themed collector pieces sold directly through its treasury — this Christmas series being squarely in that tradition. These colour-printed cupro-nickel pieces are legal tender on the island but produced in quantities calibrated for the collector market, not the till.
