Reverse description A naturalistically rendered European robin (Erithacus rubecula) is depicted perched centrally amid a richly detailed holly tree, its characteristic rounded body and alert gaze prominent in the field. Holly branches bearing lobed leaves and clusters of berries fill the lower and lateral fields, with bare winter tree branches visible in the background. The denomination legend FIFTY PENCE arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin capitals, with the letters interspersed among the upper branches of the tree. A small engraver's monogram or mint mark appears at the lower centre of the design.
