| Additional information |
The 1/40 oz denomination sits at the bottom of the Royal Mint's bullion fractional range, introduced to bring gold ownership within reach of smaller budgets — a commercial decision as much as a numismatic one. Charles III's effigy, sculpted by Martin Jennings, made its debut on coinage in 2023, replacing the Jody Clark portrait of Elizabeth II that had circulated since 2015.
