| Reverse description | Central motif features the numeral '50' in bold stylized figures, enclosed within a dotted inner circle. An elaborate wreath of flowering branches with detailed foliage encircles the central device, filling the field to the squared periphery. The design is executed in high relief with fine detail throughout the decorative floral elements. No additional legend or inscription appears on this face; the denomination is conveyed solely through the numeral and the Urdu script on the obverse. |

Pattern coins from the Pakistan Mint rarely surface in Western collections, and this nickel-brass trial from 1990 is no exception. It was struck during a period when Pakistan was actively reassessing its circulating coinage alloys — the existing cupro-nickel 50 Paisa had been in production since the early 1970s, and rising metal costs were pushing the mint toward cheaper alternatives. Nickel brass was the logical candidate, already adopted by several Commonwealth-adjacent nations by this point.
KM# Pn10 appears to have been rejected in favor of continuing the existing composition. The reformulation ultimately came later, on different terms.
