Comments

Greenland's colonial scrip occupied a peculiar monetary niche: it was not legal tender in Denmark, had no validity outside Greenland, and was explicitly designed to keep trade captive to the Royal Greenland Trading Company's stores. The 1913 series — including this 50 Øre — replaced earlier leather tokens and wooden money that had served the same function since the 18th century.

The four signature combinations documented for Pick 12 span a considerable administrative period, reflecting successive directors of the Agency. The typographic distinction between the straight and ondulated hyphen above the "u" in Munch's name is a genuine printing variation, not a manuscript correction — likely the result of worn or substituted type between press runs.
