Norway's 50 øre was discontinued after 2011, making the 1996–2011 run the final incarnation of the denomination before it was abolished entirely — the smallest Norwegian coin to survive decimalization ultimately lost its battle with inflation and retail rounding practices. The Storting voted to eliminate it largely because production costs had come to exceed face value.
